🌡️ Candle making tools
With a pouring pitcher, a thermometer and a scale, you can already make candles like a pro. Everything else helps, but it isn’t essential.
🫕 Tools Candle pouring pitcher A candle pouring pitcher is the one tool every candle maker uses on every single batch: you melt the wax in it, stir in the fragrance and pour straight into your jars without a mess. See guide →
🌡️ Tools Candle thermometer A candle thermometer takes the guesswork out of melting, adding fragrance and pouring, and it is the single biggest upgrade to the look and scent throw of your candles. See guide →
⚖️ Tools Digital scale for candle making Candle making is done by weight, not by volume, so a simple digital scale is what turns a recipe into a candle you can repeat exactly. See guide →
🔥 Tools Heat gun for candles A heat gun is the candle maker's eraser: a few seconds of hot air smooths bumpy tops, closes small holes and warms jars so the wax sticks properly. See guide →
✂️ Tools Wick trimmer A wick trimmer is a small pair of angled scissors that reaches into jars to cut the wick to the right length, which means a cleaner flame, less soot and a longer-lasting candle. See guide →
🔔 Tools Candle snuffer A candle snuffer puts out the flame by cutting off its oxygen, so there is no splattered wax, far less smoke and a nicer-smelling room after you finish. See guide → Essentials
A pouring pitcher with a spout for the double boiler, a thermometer to hit the wax temperatures and a kitchen scale to weigh wax and fragrance oil.
Very handy
A heat gun to smooth the top, a wick trimmer to keep the wick at 1/4 inch (5–6 mm) and a candle snuffer to put it out without smoke.
Frequently asked questions
Can I melt wax in the microwave?
It’s not recommended: it heats unevenly and can overheat the wax. Use a double boiler.
Do I need a thermometer?
Yes. Adding fragrance and pouring at the right temperature is what improves results the most.
How precise does the scale need to be?
1 g (0.05 oz) precision is enough for wax and fragrance oil; for liquid dyes, count drops.
