How it works

  • Fragrance is calculated as a % of the wax weight (the most common method).
  • A typical fragrance load is 6% to 10%.
  • Every wax has a maximum: go over it and the fragrance oil can seep out onto the surface.
  • Add the fragrance at the temperature your wax recommends and stir for 2 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What fragrance load should I use?+

Start at 8% with soy or rapeseed wax. Go up or down depending on your taste and your wax’s maximum.

Does more fragrance mean a stronger scent?+

Not always: above the maximum the candle won’t smell stronger, and it may sweat oil or burn poorly.

Is the % based on the wax or the total?+

In this calculator, it’s based on the wax weight, which is how most manufacturers state it.
